Venice in Venice

June - August 2009

Venice in Venice is a cinematic multi-screen installation at Palazzo Dona as part of the Venice Biennale, 2009 which presents a portrait of the city shot over three years, evoking its life, rituals and traditions in an edgy but colourful panoply of images, colliding and contrasting with each other. Detailing annual festivals including the Historical Regatta, the Carnival, the Festa del Redentore and Biennales the films also portray daily canal life and the floods submerging the city to create a multi-facetted, visually rich evocation of this most paradoxical of cities, its permanence and transience.
