Staffa
2017
Staffa is a work for full orchestra and large screens depicting three simultaneous visions of the uninhabited Hebridean island of Staffa created by Gerry Fox and composer Ned Bigham for the Edinburgh International Festival, 2017. The piece pays homage to Mendelssohn’s famous visit to the haunting Fingal’s Cave on Staffa. Through sunny, rainy and stormy atmospheres they have tried to reflect a spiritual voyage around the cave and its distinctive landscape using drone aerial images. The work was presented as a recorded three screen installation at the National Library with a final live performance at the Usher Hall with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
